Labor’s policy outline has reaffirmed the strategic framework established by the 2009 defence white paper and has committed the government to publish a new defence white paper at least every five years.

The one major policy initiative revealed in the week before the election was a program to provide health and housing support for wounded ADF personnel.

The Simpson program will provide $20.2 million over four years for improved support for wounded service personnel, including access to specialist rehabilitation where needed.

Since 2001, 18 Australian soldiers have been killed and more than 145 wounded.
