News Review: Local firm wins Swedish contract | ADM Nov 2010

Sydney-based weapon mount designer and manufacturer W&E Platt Pty Ltd has been awarded a contract to supply protected ring mounts for use by the Swedish armed forces.

Worth in excess of $2 million the order covers the delivery of 66 MR550 FMV Dual Shielded Ring Mounts and is the third export order for this Platt ring mount design in the last two years.

“This most recent order for Sweden is a resounding endorsement for our MR550 family of protected ring mounts and the company’s ability to respond quickly to customer requirements,” Allan Platt managing director of W&E Platt said.

“With very short notice we were able to ramp up production of this particular ring mount and will deliver all 66 units inside five months of contract signature.”

The MR550 FMV Dual Shielded Ring Mount is the latest variant of the successful MR550 Bi-Metal Ring Mount series, which is in service with Sweden and on order by Brazil, where it will equip the new Iveco VBTP 6x6 armoured personnel carrier.

The ring mounts which are the subject of this latest order for Sweden will be installed on RG-32M 4x4 protected vehicles currently under construction by BAE Systems in South Africa.

Sweden has previously deployed the RG-32M on operations in Afghanistan.

Delivery of the first ring mounts for Sweden commenced last month with final deliveries scheduled for January 2011.
