Canberra headquartered Aspen Medical has announced the launch of a new specialist capability: Aspen Medical – Defence and National Security. This move marks a milestone in the company’s continued growth and long-standing commitment to delivering scalable healthcare solutions for the defence and national security sector.

“Aspen Medical – Defence and National Security represents our enduring commitment to those who service our communities and our nation, at home and abroad,” Group CEO of Aspen Medical, Craig Fitzgerald, said. “With more than two decades of operational experience in regions including Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Iraq, Haiti, Somalia and Ukraine, we are uniquely positioned to support the health and readiness of defence and national security personnel – wherever and whenever they are needed.”

Aspen Medical has operated across 23 countries and served in remote and often complex environments. The launch of Aspen Medical – Defence and National Security hopes to offer sovereign capability at a time when Australia is reassessing national resilience and preparing for a rapidly evolving security landscape.

“People are mission critical,” Al Martin stated. “We are focused on protecting the health and resilience of those defending national interests – enabling them to succeed, even in the most demanding environments.”

The new division will serve as a Centre of Excellence (COE), combining Aspen Medical’s operational expertise across land, air and maritime domains with healthcare delivery and workforce resilience strategies. Its capabilities include garrison and workplace healthcare solutions, training support and capability-building programs, and deployed health services to sustain independent operations for longer.

Aspen Medical has also announced the appointment of Al Martin as the inaugural Chief of Defence and National Security. Martin possesses leadership experience across military, law enforcement, government, commercial and the not-for-profit sectors. He is known for delivering health services to the Australian Defence Force (ADF), managing Ebola hospitals in West Africa and leading major COVID-19 response programs.
