Babcock Australasia has opened a new $31 million building in Adelaide that will support several programs across Army and the Royal Australian Navy.

The Woodville North facility replaces and expands on Babcock's legacy facilities at the Osborne Naval Shipyard. It includes 4,000 square metres of workshop and warehouse space as well as 2,000 square metres of office space.

It will be used to support Collins Class in-service sustainment as well as the forthcoming Life of Type Extension (LOTE) program. It will also play a role in servicing the Navy's future nuclear-powered submarines as well as the Hunter class frigates. On the Army side, the facility will support the Counter Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (C-CBRNE) asset management program.

The building is owned Commercial and General and is leased to Babcock under a long-term arrangement. The new facility will be fully operational by the end of this year.

"This cutting-edge facility underpins our commitment to our Defence customers by positioning us at the forefront of national defence capabilities," said Babcock Australasia CEO Andrew Cridland.

“The additional space means we can scale up our sustainment output on the Collin Class fleet, deliver Life of Type Extension projects, and provide a critical pathway to AUKUS by ensuring these submarines remain operational until the first of the nuclear-powered submarines hit the water.”
