Babcock Australasia and British company Submarine Manufacturing and Products (SMP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore technology that could provide a new undersea support capability to the Royal Australian and Royal New Zealand Navies.

The MoU brings together Babcock's engineering, sustainment, asset management and supply chain experience, with SMP’s expertise in specialised military diving, underwater maintenance, decompression systems, and submarine escape and rescue.

"Strengthening these critical capabilities in Australia will be done in concert with local SMEs creating manufacturing and export opportunities that will build industry depth and develop long term supply chain resilience," Babcock stated.

“The MOU between Babcock and SMP is the first step in establishing this enhanced domain capability into our sovereign industrial base," said Babcock Australasia Executive Director AUKUS and Strategic Growth Andy Davis.
