BAE Systems Australia has successfully tested a new version of the Razer Low Cost Precision Guided Munition (LCPGM).
"Razer has progressed at a breakneck speed and these flight trials were the accumulation of many months of hard work. We’re all incredibly proud of the team and the accomplishment,” said Program Manager – Future Guided Weapons Products Leon MacLaren.
The tests saw a helicopter drop an inert Razer test vehicle which then guided itself to the ground.
"Razer is innovative because it’s a multi-purpose system that will cater for a variety of light munitions in different sizes and masses. Defence forces will be able to take an available unguided munition and configure it with Razer to increase capability. This means the munition can go a lot further, hit a target more accurately and better protect service people by taking them out of harm’s way," MacLaren added.
Razer was first unveiled at the 2023 Avalon Airshow with initial flight tests occurring nine months after that. Those tests informed the design of a new configuration which was tested for the first time during the recent flight trials.
Development of the Razer LCPGM is being funded internally by BAE Systems Australia.
