In August, one of Army's new UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters performed first of class flight trials aboard the multi-role aviation training vessel MV Sycamore.

During the trials, the UH-60M Black Hawk of the 6th Aviation Regiment was flown by two Royal Australian Navy (RAN) test pilots.

First of class flight trials are required before an aircraft type can operate from RAN vessels, and focus on integrating the aircraft with ship systems, identifying limits and restrictions, and testing the aircraft's suitability.

The trials also included an on-deck refueling of the UH-60M Black Hawk using MV Sycamore's aviation fuel reserves.

Army's UH-60Ms will eventually be operated from the RAN's two Canberra class LHDs and HMAS Choules (L 100), replacing the MRH-90 and supplementing the Ch-47F in that role.
