Defence has awarded four companies contracts through the Defence Industry Vendor Qualification (DIVQ) program to produce sample components that can then be tested to ensure they meet US Navy standards for inclusion on submarines.
HIFraser, Mack Valves, Bale Defence and STAUFF Corporation were all awarded contracts through the program. HIFraser and Mack Valves will each produce five examples of three kinds of valves through their contracts. Bale Defence and STAUFF Corporation will meanwhile produce pipe fittings.
“This qualification program is critical to delivering on AUKUS but also demonstrates how AUKUS can deliver for Australians and local businesses by providing opportunities for growth and jobs," said the Minister for Defence Industry and Capability Delivery, Pat Conroy.
"It helps to fill the gaps within the supply chains of our AUKUS partners, giving greater strength and resilience to these supply chains."
Once the parts are assessed by the US Navy - and assuming they pass - the four companies will be able to win orders from the US Navy to support the American submarine supply chain.
"It also contributes to the development of Australian businesses ahead of the build and sustainment of our own conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines."
