The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has completed its leadership transition with the former Chief of the Defence Force (CDF), General Angus Campbell formally transferring command to the new CDF, Admiral David Johnston.
In April this year, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a suite of senior ADF appointments, all of which have taken place this month, culminating in the transfer of command from General Campbell to Admiral Johnston on 10 July.
On 9 July, the former Vice Chief of the Defence Force (VCDF), Admiral Johnston, handed over command to Air Marshal Robert Chipman during a ceremony in Canberra. Air Marshal Chipman himself handed over command as the Chief of Air Force to Air Marshal Stephen Chappell on 3 July.
The former Chief of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Greg Bilton, transferred his role as Chief of Joint Operations to Vice Admiral Justin Jones on 5 July, while Lieutenant General Susan Coyle assumed the mantle of Chief of Joint Capabilities from Lieutenant General John Frewen on 4 July.
Lieutenant General Gavan Reynolds also concluded his term as the inaugural Chief of Defence Intelligence, where he will be replaced by an as yet-unknown civilian.
