Civmec Defence Industries (CDI) has congratulated the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) on the commissioning of HMAS Eyre and recognises the contribution of the skilled workforce and industry partners who built and supported the ship.

"The commissioning of HMAS Eyre is a proud moment for CDI and the shipbuilding community in South Australia and Western Australia," Civmec Defence Industries General Manager, Mark Clay, said.

"I would like to thank everyone involved in her build for their commitment and professionalism."

HMAS Eyre is the second Arafura class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to enter service and joins her sister ship HMAS Arafura

"We wish HMAS Eyre and her crew every success as she joins the fleet. May she serve with distinction, safeguard her crew and contribute to Australia’s maritime security," Clay stated.

The Arafura class OPVs are modern 80 m and 1,625 tonne multi-role ships that will support the RAN to deliver enhanced maritime security, strengthen regional engagement, and provide vital support for humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

HMAS Eyre was the final OPV to be built in South Australia. Production has now transferred to CDI’s modern, integrated steel shipyard in Henderson, Western Australia.

Delivery continues at pace on the project, with the remaining four Arafura class OPVs under parallel production in Henderson.

NUSHIP Pilbara, the first of class to be built in Western Australia, was launched in October 2025 and has recently commenced harbour acceptance trials. NUSHIPs Gippsland, Illawarra and Carpentaria are in various stages of construction and outfitting within Civmec’s main assembly hall.
