Three Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) Boeing P-8A Poseidons arrived at Pohang Naval Air Station on 19 June following a ferry flight from the US.

The ROKN ordered six P-8As in 2018 as part of a US$2.1 billion foreign Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case.

In 2020, Boeing was awarded a US$1.5 billion contract covering the production of 18 P-8A aircraft by the US Department of Defence, including all six for the ROKN.

While only three have arrived in South Korea so far, all six aircraft have already been completed, with the remaining three aircraft are scheduled to arrive in South Korea on 30 June.

Following their arrival, the ROKN will formally accept all six aircraft on 4 July, before the fleet begins a year of intensive training and workups to achieve full operational capability (FOC) in mid-2025

Unlike other P-8A operators, including Australia, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom, the ROKN didn't bring aircraft home one at a time as they moved through the acceptance, training and delivery process.
