Global Defence Solutions (GDS) has delivered the final two deployable container systems to Thomas Global Systems for the M1A2 Abrams Immersive Tactical Trainers (ITT) - its contribution to the Australian Army’s Land 907 Armoured Combat program.
“The successful completion of this project reflects the skill and coordination across our Alkath Group teams,” GDS Project Manager, Michael Ashelford, said.
“The mechanical design team worked alongside production crews in fabrication, structural, painting, electrical and textiles. Procurement and logistics staff, kept things moving, while inhouse RF testing ensured quality. Finance, commercial project management and EMT personnel also played critical roles.”
The handover has concluded a contract, initiated in June 2023, to supply deployable container systems to Thomas Global Systems as the Prime Systems Integrator for the Army’s M1A2 Abrams Systems Enhancement Package version 3 (M1A2 SEPv3) ITT project.
“Completing the LAND 907 program strengthens GDS’s position in sovereign manufacturing and deployable infrastructure solutions,” Alkath Group’s Director of Operations & Program Delivery, Jeromy Bendall, stated.
“This project supports the Australian Army’s advanced capabilities and sustains skilled employment in the Nowra region. Our ongoing partnership with Thomas Global Systems continues to deliver results, with potential for growth in AUKUS export markets.”
Thomas Global Systems have now delivered the last Immersive Tactical Trainer-Containerised (ITT-C) to designated training school, marking the end of this delivery tranche. Since mid-2023, Alkath Group’s GDS has collaborated with Thomas Global Systems, to provide the containerised infrastructure for the M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 simulation system.
Housed in 20-foot 1C ISO containers, the ITTs replicate the M1A2 Abrams tank environment, with crew positions for gunner and driver, plus an instructor station. The modular, deployable design will enable field-based training, improving operational readiness. Upon deployment, the 12 ITT-C’s will serve Army bases nationwide, supporting training for Australia’s upgraded M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 Main Battle Tank fleet.
The Land 907 contract completion adds to GDS’s work within the Alkath Group, which includes a partnership with Saab Australia on JP 2060 Phase 3 for deployable health capabilities and collaboration with Thomas Global Systems on containerised training systems for Army’s Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles.
ADM previously reported on Thomas Global Systems contract with the Australian Army for M1A2 ITTs for approximately $60 million.
