Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA) has appointed Ben Hudson as Managing Director. His new position will be effective from 2 June 2025. 

“I am pleased to be joining the team at HDA during such an important point of the company’s growth,”  Hudson said. 

Previous to this appointment, Hudson was Chief Executive Officer of BAE Systems Australia (CEO). Hudson has had experience in Europe and Australia in the defence industry. He will be leading HDA as the company works towards delivering the Huntsman family of vehicles LAND 8116 Phase 1 Protected Mobile Fires and the Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) under LAND 400 Phase 3. 

"With this leadership transition, we are strengthening our commitment to supporting the growth of Australia’s defence industrial base and further enhancing the nation’s sovereign capabilities,” Hanwha Aerospace Global Defense CEO, Mike Coulter, said.

Hudson has worked with and led teams in BAE Systems, Rheinmetall and General Dynamics. At BAE Systems, before becoming the CEO, he was previously the Chief Technology Officer and was based in the UK. At Rheinmetall, in 2016, he was on the executive board. He is also a veteran of the Australian Army, and it is hoped his leadership will see the company expand its Australian footprint.

Outgoing Acting Managing Director Mr Dean Michie, who will become General Manager Corporate, has welcomed the confirmation after spending 12 months acting the in the role.
