Japan is hoping to purchase Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectiles Capability Support (HVGPCS) and other related equipment from the United States. The estimated overall cost is US $200 million (approximately AU $318,770,800). The US State Department has decided to approve the possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS).

The specifics of the FMS include Japan's request to buy equipment and services in support of its indigenous Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectiles (HVGP) capability. The buy includes test preparation, test, and transportation support, and coordination meetings in the United States and Japan. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSEA) says the proposed sale will provide defence for remote islands in the Indo-Pacific region.

The equipment and services will be provided by the US Government to Japan.
