The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has approved a possible sale of four E-7 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft to the Republic of Korea.
Worth up to US$4.92 billion, the package includes four aircraft, ten CFM56 engines, seven Guardian Laser Transmitter Assemblies (GLTA), eight AN/AAR-57 AN/AAQ 24(V)N Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures System Processor Replacements, ten Embedded Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS), and six Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems with Tactical Targeting Network Technology.
Boeing's E-7 is one competitor in the Republic of Korea Air Force's (ROKAF) ongoing AEW&C II competition. The ROKAF currently operates four E-7 'Peace Eye' aircraft, which were delivered from 2012.
Other competitors for the AEW&C II competition include Saab's GlobalEye and an L3Harris proposal that involves integrating Israel Aerospace Industries radar systems with Bombardier's Global 6500 aircraft.
