Saab Australia is expanding its office in Rockingham, Western Australia (WA), to accommodate personnel attached to its naval combat systems business.
The expansion will more than double the size of Saab Australia's office facilities in WA and help the company move towards employing 100 people in the state.
"Saab has been delivering combat systems integration, sustainment and maintenance in Western Australia for the Royal Australian Navy since 2001 and looks forward to continuing this partnership,” said the Managing Director of Saab Australia, Andy Keough.
"We are committed to continuing to grow our specialist workforce and capabilities where the Commonwealth needs us to deliver their strategic priorities," he added.
Saab Australia provides, or has been selected to provide, versions of its 9LV combat management system (CMS) to all major Royal Australian Navy (RAN) surface ships including the current Anzac class frigates, Arafura class offshore patrol vessels, Supply class auxiliary replenishment oilers, and Canberra class landing helicopter docks.
It's also developing an Australian tactical interface to the Aegis combat system that will be installed onboard the Hunter class frigates and upgraded Hobart class destroyers.
Notably, despite the CMS being mandated for all RAN vessels since 2017, the new general purpose frigates will not be equipped - at least initially - with the system.
