Saab Australia has been awarded a four year contract to provide in-service support for Army's inventory of Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless rifles. Through the contract, which can be includes the possibility of a two year extension, Saab Australia will maintain and repair the systems while training operators and maintainers.
“Demonstrated to deliver results on the battlefield, the Carl-Gustaf system, is a combat-proven capability that ensures the effectiveness our soldiers need,” said Saab Australia Managing Director Andy Keough.
“As a sovereign provider with a demonstrated history in supporting Australia’s land domain, Saab’s local workforce, agility, and unrestricted product access, allows us to rapidly deliver speed to capability for the Australian Defence Force.”
In July 2023 Defence ordered $56 million worth of additional Carl-Gustaf M4 weapons. At the time, deliveries were scheduled to begin during 2024-2025.
“This order continues Saab’s longstanding relationship with the Australian Defence Force and again demonstrates the diverse range of products and services we offer,” Andy Keough said at the time.
The Carl-Gustaf system has been supplied to more than 40 countries around the world.
