Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) has selected Safran Electronics and Defense to deliver Electro-Optical (EO) sensors and fire control systems for the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) future surface combatants.

Safran will fit the RSN's Multi Role Combat Vessels (MRCV) and Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) with EO optronic sights and a new generation of the company's Gun Fire Control Systems (GFCS). It will also upgrade the RSN's six Formidable class frigates with a new version of GFCS.

Separately, Safran has also signed an MoU with the DSTA, covering cooperation to enhance the capabilities of weapon control systems against emerging threats.

“Collaborating with Safran will allow us to bring our diverse expertise together, stay ahead of evolving technology and enhance our capabilities. Through this partnership, we will accelerate technological advancement and co-develop innovative solutions to counter emerging threats” said the DSTA's Chief Executive, Ng Chad-Son.

“As threats continue to evolve, so too must the systems designed to counter them,” said the President of Safran Electronics and Defense, Franck Saudo.

“In conjunction with advancements in target identification, the development of sophisticated decision support algorithms plays a pivotal role in modern defense. We are proud to take on this challenge alongside DSTA.”
