According to Mark Thomson's ASPI budget brief, the percentage of officers in the ADF has grown from 17.2 per cent in 1989 to 24.4 per cent in 2009.

In other words, there are now around three enlisted men for every officer.

Even more excitingly (for some), in the past 12 years the number of military star-ranked officers has grown by 59 per cent while the military workforce has grown by just nine per cent.

As Mark comments, whatever problems Defence may have, they're not a result of being under-managed at the senior level.
