Minister for Defence Materiel and Science Greg Combet said the funds, available in the latest round of the Government's Skilling Australia's Defence Industry (SADI) program, would create real opportunities for workers and industry.
"More than 1,500 training opportunities are expected to be created in the next financial year, creating more opportunities for young workers keen on a career building some of Australia's top military gear," Combet said.
"Australian workers building the country's infantry mobility vehicles, helicopters, components of the Joint Strike Fighter and other important military projects are also likely to benefit from the funds, with more opportunities to advance their skills.
"The country's defence industry will also benefit with the opportunity to grow the skills of their workforce and to gain a competitive edge in the sector.
"These funds will go towards helping employers pay for apprentice training and supervision, course fees, text books, training facilities, travel expenses and overseas training with original equipment manufacturers.
"The funds available under the SADI program are part of the Federal Government's $215 million commitment to workers in Australia's defence industry and to growing skills in the sector over 10 years."
Applications close on July 2, with funding announcements to be made by August 2.
