Life After Service and Women Veterans Wellness Weekend

Transitioning from military service to civilian life remains one of the most complex challenges facing veterans. While discharge marks a formal end to service, many veterans continue to navigate the long-term impacts of military life, including changes to identity, mental health, family dynamics and employment.

I’ve Got Your 6 Foundation (IGY6), a veteran-owned, national, not-for-profit organisation, has launched a suite of wellbeing programs aimed at supporting veterans and their families well beyond the point of discharge. The programs focus on long-term wellbeing, purpose and reconnection, and are designed to complement existing government and community support systems.

IGY6 delivers its programs using trauma-informed and evidence-based frameworks, incorporating psychology, neuroscience and neuro-linguistic programming principles. This integrated approach supports veterans to better understand stress responses, rebuild identity beyond service, and develop practical strategies to support ongoing wellbeing.

Life After Service

Life After Service is IGY6’s core national program supporting veterans and first responders transitioning to civilian life or managing the long-term effects of service. The program acknowledges that transition is not a single event, but an ongoing process that may occur months or years after discharge.

Delivered nationally through telehealth, and via face-to-face services in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania, Life After Service provides access to psychology, life coaching and social work services. Participants may also access psychosocial assessments and tailored wellbeing supports aligned with their individual circumstances.

The program focuses on mental health, identity, purpose and community connection, supporting veterans to re-engage with meaningful roles beyond service. Services are delivered by experienced practitioners with strong knowledge of military culture, ensuring support is culturally informed and responsive to the practical realities of life after service.

Beyond Service – Women Veterans Wellness Weekend

The Beyond Service – Women Veterans Wellness Weekend is a national initiative designed specifically for women who have served. The program responds to growing recognition that women veterans often experience service and transition differently, and that their needs have historically been underrepresented in veteran wellbeing programs.

Delivered as a series of facilitated wellness weekends in Victoria, the program provides a structured and supportive environment for women veterans to focus on mental and emotional wellbeing, peer connection and stress regulation. The weekends offer an opportunity to step away from day-to-day responsibilities and engage with others who share lived experience.

The program is trauma-informed and strengths-based, with activities designed to support identity beyond service roles, emotional regulation and peer support. It is accessible to women from a wide range of service backgrounds and life circumstances.

Supporting Veterans and Families

In addition to its flagship programs, IGY6 provides a range of integrated services aimed at supporting veterans and their families holistically. This includes assistance for eligible veterans navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), including support with evidence preparation and planning pathways.

Psychology, counselling and social work services are available to current and former Australian Defence Force members, as well as partners, families and children affected by the impacts of service.

A National, Trauma-Informed Model

IGY6 delivers services nationally through telehealth and strategic partnerships, ensuring access for veterans regardless of geographic location, including regional and remote communities. Programs operate within established clinical and governance frameworks and are designed to deliver measurable outcomes.
