Revolutionary Fibrotex Ultra Lightweight Camouflage Net System and Mobile Camouflage System Promise Unmatched Protection and Interoperability. Strategic partnerships and local manufacturing drive sovereign capability for Australia’s military future.

August 2025

Spearpoint, in collaboration with global camouflage leader Fibrotex Group, is positioning itself as the trusted provider of the Ultra Lightweight Camouflage Net System (ULCANS) as the foundation for the Land Forces Camouflage System (LFCS) solution for the Australian Defence Force.

In response to the recent LSD RFT and building upon a legacy of proven innovation from Spearpoint, this new solution delivers unmatched multi-spectral concealment, adaptability, and durability, setting a new benchmark for military camouflage capabilities nationwide.

Superior performance in counter detection

Spearpoint’s LFCS solution, based on the battle-tested Fibrotex ULCANS platform, is designed to equip Australia’s Land Forces with the most advanced, modular, and scalable camouflage systems available. Already in operational use with the United States military and recently selected by the Japanese Self Defence Forces, the ULCANS system is internationally recognized for its superior performance across a spectrum of modern battlefield threats.

By combining advanced technology, enduring field performance, and seamless interoperability, the LFCS solution delivers a comprehensive value proposition to the ADF which will be uniquely tailored to meet the evolving demands of modern defence operations:

The ULCANS is an advanced, customizable camouflage system that meets the strict US military MIL-PRF-32575 standard and is designed to counter modern detection methods, including RADAR, AI and edge recognition sensor technologies.

The Mobile Camouflage System (MCS) incorporates the most advanced counter RADAR and IR detection, as well as sophisticated counter AI and edge recognition technology on the move. The MCS is designed to make an armoured vehicle not look like an armoured vehicle.

The systems are built to last at least 10 years, featuring lightweight, robust materials for easy deployment and durability in tough environments.

The LFCS offers easy integration with allied military systems, ensuring compatibility and proven effectiveness in international operations. The USMC use the Fibrotex ULCANS exclusively through their littoral deployments in the Asia Pacific region.

World-leading solution

Spearpoint’s partnership with Fibrotex leverages over eight years of successful collaboration, with Fibrotex supplying camouflage systems to leading militaries worldwide. Notably, Fibrotex outperformed eleven global competitors, including SAAB Barracuda and HDT Expeditionary Systems, in securing a landmark $1 billion USD contract with the US Army to provide the ULCANS. Subsequent US investment of $30 million USD further enhanced the design and development of mobile and personal protection systems, reinforcing the system’s world-class standing.

International adoption underscores the LFCS solution’s battlefield credibility. The Finnish Defence Force engaged Fibrotex for over €35 million EUR, establishing a sovereign capability with Fibrotex as the sole supplier of camouflage systems in Finland and enabling other Nordic nations to acquire a Nordic-designed, proven solution.

In Japan, following seven years of exhaustive evaluation, the Japanese Self Defence Forces initiated the acquisition of 26,000 Fibrotex net systems—the world’s second-largest camouflage project—supported by a purpose-built sovereign manufacturing facility. These successful implementations provide a blueprint for Spearpoint’s approach in Australia.

"After many years of testing and evaluation, we finally achieved the opportunity to enhance the survivability of Japanese soldiers," said Mr. Fumia Kitashima, Head of the Camouflage Project in Japan.

"Together with the Fibrotex team, we established full integration capabilities for Fibrotex’ 2D nets, reaching full-scale production in just a few months in 2024. Recently, we established an additional manufacturing facility which will enable large-scale production to meet the needs of the Japanese army for many years to come. I am truly delighted that we are able to bring the world’s best camouflage technology into service with the Japanese army."

In line with its commitment to local industry, Spearpoint plans to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Australia, directly benefiting the national economy and advancing the country's sovereign capability in defence technology.

The facility’s design replicates proven models from the US, Finland, and Japan, ensuring a rapid and reliable transfer of skills, knowledge, and operational capacity. Spearpoint and Fibrotex Group will engage closely with Australian stakeholders, conducting region-specific environmental research to tailor systems to the unique conditions faced by Australian forces.

Spearpoint’s comprehensive LFCS proposal includes the supply of 25,000 Multi-Spectral Camouflage Nets (MSCN) over the next decade, offering Australia a future-proofed, battle-tested solution that aligns with key allies and assures on-time delivery based on rigorous, internationally recognized testing. The proposed MCS builds on extensive overseas development and ongoing international collaboration and testing.

Dan Skinner, Spearpoint Managing Director, commented on the strategic advantage this brings to both the ADF and Australian industry: “With this initiative, Spearpoint reaffirm their dedication to delivering advanced, locally manufactured camouflage solutions that empower Australia’s Defence Force to prevail in the most demanding operational theatres.”
