Inmarsat, a leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has successfully launched its first Global Xpress (GX) satellite (Inmarsat-5 F1) from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The launch took place, Sunday 08 December 2013 at 12:12 GMT, on board a Proton Breeze M rocket.
The satellite was correctly acquired by the Inmarsat Paumalu station at 17:48 GMT (December 8th) and the Inmarsat-5 launch provider, ILS, confirmed a successful spacecraft separation at 03:43hrs GMT (December 9th).
The satelitte will help deliver the world’s first globally available, high-speed mobile broadband service.
The company is on schedule to achieve full global coverage for Global Xpress by end of 2014.
