Thomas Global Systems welcomed Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne to its 60th year celebrations held in Sydney on December 6.

The Company was joined by partners, customers and supporters to celebrate 60 years as in Australian aviation and defence electronics.

Minister Pyne officially launched Thomas Global's 60th anniversary book Thomas Global Systems: 60 Years of Practical Innovation which details the Company’s heritage, from its beginnings as Australia’s largest manufacturer of monochrome television picture tubes, to its current capabilities as an advanced manufacturer of cockpit display systems, armoured vehicle electronics and specialist defence systems for global civil and military markets. The book offers an insight into Thomas Global’s evolution against the backdrop of the Australian electronics, aerospace and defense industries for over half a century.

“Thomas Global’s story is a remarkable one,” Minister Pyne said. “From its earliest days producing television sets, it’s a company that has survived through high and low tariffs, competition from overseas, the rapid pace of technological change and the vagaries of various Governments.

“Thomas has now diversified into many areas of Defence and aviation production and maintenance, producing and servicing specialist displays, simulators and operator panels across the services.”

“We were delighted to welcome Minister Pyne to celebrate with us as we marked our 60th year,” William Hutchinson, chairman of Thomas Global, said. “The Minister’s visit underscored Thomas Global’s achievements in the international aerospace and defence industry, of which we are proud.”
