The US Senate has confirmed nominations for a new group of senior military leaders that includes the top two positions.
US Army General Martin Dempsey and US Navy Admiral James Winnefeld were approved on August 2 to become the next chairman and vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
They will replace Admiral Mike Mullen and his deputy, US Marine Corps General James Cartwright, both of whom are retiring.
