Australia is now home to one of the world’s toughest dual mode GSM & satellite all-in-one mobile phone after Indigo Telecom launched the all new purpose-built ultra-rugged XT-Dual handset by Thuraya; a device set to change telecommunications for both bush and city users
Chief Executive Officer David Ruddiman said not only does the phone work across 100 per cent of Australia’s landmass and out to sea, but it raises the bar in reliability and dependability.
“By current standards, the new XT-Dual handsets are by far the toughest dual mode phone Australia has ever seen. You can throw all the elements at the phone and it will still come back fighting,” Mr Ruddiman said
“It is Australia’s only fully ‘ruggedized’, dual mode (GSM and satellite all-in-one) phone. It’s water, splash, shock and dust proof and, after it’s been through all that, it will still work across Australia and out to sea.”
The XT-Dual has numerous features which make it perfect for regional Australia and ideal for everyone else. It has GPS waypoint navigation and tracking capabilities, with a special SOS alerting feature built in.
It is Bluetooth ready, receives GSM and satellite calls with the antenna down and can synchronise with your computer for email download or web browsing, and has multiple smartphone applications.
“Its best feature though is the ability to switch between GSM and satellite services. This provides our customers with the best of both worlds; standard terrestrial GSM when within GSM coverage and automatic switching to satellite when you no longer have standard terrestrial network coverage. Used correctly it truly offers no more black spots,” Mr Ruddiman said.
