NIOA and ATK recently provided RAN operators with Maintainer Training for the M242 25mm Chain Gun that is used on the Armidale-class patrol boats.
They will also be fitted to the future Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) and Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) ships.
A two-week course was recently held at Bandiana in Victoria, with students from Navy’s West Head Gunnery Range and DMO’s Centre for Maritime Engineering in attendance.
Greg Toms, NIOA’s Technical and Armoury Services Manager, said “It was a great opportunity to have the very latest instruction for trained maintainers on the 25mm chain gun. It is a reliable and operationally effective gun that is only enhanced by good maintenance regimes”.
NIOA was appointed by ATK as their exclusive distributor in Australia and New Zealand for a broad range of products and services from the ATK Defence business group in January 2013.
The range of ATK products represented by NIOA includes ammunition, medium calibre gun systems, gun and bomb fuses and specialist weapon systems.
