In this episode, Grant McHerron and Ewen Levick talk with Robert Nioa, Global CEO of NIOA, about the Australian Missile Corporation and its bid to become the Australian government’s strategic partner for the Sovereign Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Enterprise.

The discussion starts with Robert explaining the role the Australian Missile Corporation (AMC) hopes to play in the sovereign missile enterprise, the benefits it will give the Commonwealth, the challenges that will be faced and the part organisations will play in delivery of the Enterprise. We then move on to NIOA's strengths, their innovative approach and unique “best-of-breed’ business model as compared to rival bids.

Robert also provides his definition of sovereign capability and how it applies to the Enterprise, along with his thoughts on the business model the Commonwealth is likely to adopt and the potential for construction of new facilities. Moving on from guided missiles, the discussion shifts to NIOA's growth strategy for the future, including the multiple Defence projects they are involved with and their vision to become Australia’s global firearms, weapons and munitions company.

We wrap the episode with Robert's views on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning within missiles and defence systems, the role of humans in the loop and decision speeds required in that environment, the future of guided missiles and the balance between offensive and defensive missile systems.
