2022 Indian Ocean Defence and Security Conference

Under the theme ‘Beyond Transits – the emerging security relevance of the Indian Ocean’, the 2022 conference will serve as a platform to highlight Western Australia’s unique geostrategic location and world-class capabilities, knowledge and innovations which serve the national interest.

Focusing on the emerging security relevance of the Indian Ocean, topics will include AUKUS, cyber security, the importance of technology and innovation advancement, and growing sovereign capability and the defence industry. 

Some of the high-profile speakers already confirmed for the conference include India's Ambassador to China Mr Shivshankar Menon, BAE Systems Australia Chief Operating Officer Mr Darren Kirkby, Research Professor at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences Dr Dewi Fortuna Anwar, and Shangri-La Dialogue Senior Fellow for Asia Pacific Security Dr Lynn Kuok.

The emergence of Western Australian resource sector innovators in the defence and security space will also take centre stage for the first time, showcasing how technological innovation and advances in the commercial sector may make an increasingly dangerous world safer.

KADEX 2026, one of the largest defence industry exhibitions in Korea, is happening from 6 October to 10 October 2026.

The SIA’s eighth Submarine Science, Technology and Engineering Conference (SubSTEC8) will be held 21-23 September at Adelaide Oval, SA. Under the theme Pillar 1 through a Pillar 2 Lens – Advanced AUKUS Capabilities and the Submarine Deterrent.

The Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition has announced the 2026 edition of Australia’s largest land defence trade event will be held in Perth, Western Australia, from 6-8 October 2026. 

The next ADM Women’s Walk will take place at Land Forces in Perth on the 7th October 2026.
