Navy Warfare Innovation Workshop 2020

The Royal Australian Navy will hold its next Navy Warfare Innovation Workshop (NWIW) on December 8 – December 10. (Perth 7-10 Dec). Applications to participate in this high performance teaming event as an innovator or a facilitator close 28 November. The Head of Navy Capability (HNC), Rear Admiral Peter Quinn will open the event, which will focus on what the Navy needs to do now to fight and win at sea in the year 2030. He will also judge the proposals from the teams in a 'pitch' event on Day 3 together with Head of Navy Engineering (Designate), Rear Admiral Katherine Richards and the Chief Defence Scientist, Professor Tanya Munro. In his recent Commander’s Intent (Update 2020), the Chief of Navy said, “Australians are called to be part of something bigger, to see in our Navy the attributes of a unique, representative, inclusive organisation worthy of their commitment and service.” It is in that spirit that Navy asks Industry, Academia, Science, Technologists, Start-ups and the wider Defence Innovation ecosystem to join their personnel to co-design proposals in response to a potential future 2030 scenario. The NWIW is one of the key mechanisms by which Navy actualises Navy Industry Engagement Strategy and the deep transformational relationships that the Chief of Navy calls for with Industry and Academia. This year the NWIW will be a hybrid event – it will be held in person at Navy locations as well as virtually. To participate in the event or to volunteer as a facilitator, please contact navy.innovation@defence.gov.au or Tel: 02 9359 3777.
